Why do they restrict movies, but selling mature video games to minors is okay?
I'm 16 and appalled by this ruling. I support that bill, how crazy it seems. Why? Because I do believe that violence and sex in video games and other forms of entertainment is damaging to us! I just have to compare the guys to my school who play them to those who don't to see that, and don't know why anyone else can't see that. Why do they restrict movies, then? Can you please tell me that?

Neither movies nor video games are legally restricted. Both are the subject of voluntary restrictions by industry. A movie theater can let you into a restricted movie, but most follow the MPAA ratings system.

How can i make my Dad understand I'm old enough and mature enough to watch R movies?
I am 15, and there are a lot of movies I have really been wanting to watch, but can't because they are rated R. My dad says that i can't watch them unless 1. he has seen the movie, or 2. its on tv (tv edits out a lot of the bad stuff) i am mostly ok with this, except, a lot of times movies aren't shown on tv or if they are, its years after they come out. I watch R movies with my friends at sleepovers because their parents let them, and its the only chance I get.I am getting tired of sneaking around it, its not like I want to watch to watch the sex ones, just movies like troy which have violence and comedies like step brothers. I know I am mature enough for them, especially because i am seen as the wet blanket of my friends, the most sensible and mature of all of us, and yet when the group wants to go to the movie theater, I can't go because the movie is rated R. I'm really sick of it and want my dad to understand that I am old enough to watch these movies, any ideas?

Ask him to sit down and state your case as an adult.

Sometimes its tough for parents to budge on the things they believe in. But, maybe you can tell him that there isn't anything in these movies you havent seen or heard of in school. Sometimes that helps...just make sure he wont pull you out of school to homeschool you. Yikes.

Make a compromise. Tell him its still ok for him to monitor your movies, but only from the internet. For instance - say you and your friends are out and you want to see a movie that is rated R. Call him and tell him what movie you want to see. Allow him the time to look the movie up on the internet so he can read whats it about and go from there. Realize that he won't always say yes or no. That's part of the compromise. Showing him a willingness to cooperate and respect for his wishes will help him realize your maturity level.
