My dad isn't a hardcore Chinese communist, BUT...? Every time I try to point out some things I learn from history class my dad questions the validity, which gets kind of annoying. I'll give you some examples.
1. The estimated 20~30 million who died during the Great Leap Forward. I showed him the book by Yang Jisheng who was a communist member and came up with 36 million as the death toll. Dad says Jisheng like many people only joined the party to try to blend in and always had western tendencies. I showed him the numbers from the Oxford research department. He says it's a bias estimate and it's impossible to know since back then China didn't exactly have a fantastic record-keeping system, plus foreigners weren't welcome with open arms so they didn't witness the famines... (I can't argue with the "bias" part because there are plenty of people who resent how cultural artifacts ended up in the British Museum, even though that's *totally* beside the point, so...yeah...)
2. News reports on NBC, Fox, etc. Dad says they are bias and often exaggerated. Again, can't argue, but at least he agrees the news networks in China is also bias...*sigh*
3. Dalai Lama is a saint. OK, I read from this book that was supposed to be his memoir (cannot find the title, so *ignore* this part if you doubt it) and he all but admitted that, yes, he accepted some help from the CIA back when the revolt looked promising in Tibet but as soon as the Chinese government overwhelmed them the CIA abandoned his people, so he fled. Dalai Lama says he's been exiled from China says then. Chinese government (in Chinese news networks and newspapers) says they've invited him back to Tibet and China several time for negotiations but the Dalai Lama refuses each time.
Also about the matter of Tibetan history. Many Chinese books say conditions were horrible for serfs (and then there's the whole debate on whether it was serfdom at all). Tibetan Government in Exile deny it was as horrible as the government claims. Even western authors debate how bad it was back then.
...as you can see, always some sort of reason or excuse, always a pro-China or anti-Communist take, the debates get kind of annoying. And then there's the whole "China went through **** so don't criticize the government" (like the whole Rape of Nanjing).
Honestly, am I supposed to look down on the Chinese government or just shrug it off and say there just as bad as other governments? (I know I could go on, like treatment of prisoners, copyright issues, etc., but I'm really focusing on the discrepancies in its history.) |
| I have the same problems with my parents, they seem to have this utopian idea of their home land, pointing out errors in their thinking only annoys them. |
Australia does not need imported Chinese security for Olympic torch, our security hardcore compare to British? or what politics are going on here? |
| I'm sure the Aussie public won't tolerate chinese thuggery in this country. they have no right to place their security forces in this country, more than likely to be used against Australian citizens. if that happens i for one will be camped out at the local embassy protesting. |
Chinese athletes....hardcore? does anyone else think its sad that they get taken away from their parents so young and never get a break??? why would they make them train this hard? why do they not let them have a life? what is the point? |
| its because quite a few families are poor, this is a way for them to ensure some money in the future through thier guy. i know its always on TV and the problem is bad, its not always that bad, most people get treated fair, (by the way im not chinese). in the olympics, they also won or will because they have the higher population so finding the best out of more people is better... |
Chinese Punk/Ska/Hardcore/Thrash/Metal… general)? Do you know any??

What do you guys think of the new Guns and Roses album "Chinese Democracy"? I personally think it's brilliant. I'm a hardcore fan going back to 1988. Saw them live at MSG in 1991, awesome!
The new album isn't the original band or sound but it is definitely worth a listen. Easily the best album out this year. |
| It's good, but its not Appetite for destruction, and its certainly not 14 years in the making good. Worth a listen though. |
Do Christians in other countries also think their countries were formed by Christians? Or is it just America? For example, I'm wondering if hardcore Chinese Christians think China is a "Christian country". |
LOL good point, and yes people, we all know the founding fathers of usa were not religious, let alone christian, they were freemasons.
the truth is weirder than fiction |
Is it true that Chinese people eat cats and dogs? and some from the North (like Mongolia/Inner Mongolia) eat horses too?
wow, thats hardcore, I dunno what to say about that. I heard that Koreans, Japanese, and many other Asians.
I'm Mexican, and we dont do that, I all the Mexicans I've met have good meat secured by the FDA or the Mexican FDA and insuring we get good clean quality meat, and not from cats or dogs,,, or horses |
| You trust the FDA LOL |
Is it worste to eat some fat, or diet hardcore at 16? Okay I didnt know how to ask this question
I meant it as Is it better to eat foods like chinese food, pizza etc. Foods with fat, rather than dieting really strong at the age of 16? like only eating 1000 calories when your body needs.. idk 1800?
Is it better to diet or just eat the fatty foods and excersize?
I always here people saying its bad to diet young because you'll end up short, weak, sloppy. |
| what's with the two extremes? why not exercise and eat healthy (different from a diet)? on one end, you'll becoem anorexic and on the other end you'll become obese...both with health issues. this is by far the stupidest question i ever answered. i can now safely say that there is such a thing as a dumb question. |
Is there any truth to the whole secret monastery martial arts training trope? In many forms of media, there are parts where the characters might enter the company of (Chinese) monk brotherhood for hardcore training. Is there any truth to that? Are there tales of actual people who have been able to go into remote places and come out a better trained athlete? Please let me know anything you have heard about this.
I know there are schools where you pay to get in. They mostly seem like a business venture and not completely true to the real Buddhist monk training methods. |
Simple answer: Nope.
Since you specified "Chinese", I can take that to mean the supposed "Shaolin" that perform at various venues around the world. You are right to be skeptical because while great martial artists and acrobats in their own rights, they are merely a troupe of actors employed by the PRC for the sole purpose of generating revenue and tourism for the PRC.
True Shaolin are Buddhists first and foremost; their martial arts training is a means to an end, not their sole attribute. Since the teachings of Buddha as they interpret them conflict with the idea of Communism, most true Shaolin vacated the country with the onset of Communism - if there were any left, they would blend in and likely never mention their identity, much less offer to teach others for payment.
There are several books on the subject, but one for which I have recommended often in the past is entitled "Shaolin Grandmasters Text". It is the best recorded resource I have found. Here is a link for it on Amazon:

About chinese meal plan on getting six pack? hey iam chinese, iam eating like 4 meals a day, my aim is to get six pack but its not seem to work even though i work out 5 days a week with weights. my stomach is fat. can someone please help me with a meal plan based on chinese white rice 3-4 meals a day to help me lose weight and gain the hardcore six pack thanks |
What most people get confused with is strong abs, to a visual ab. When people want a six pack, they just want it to show.
For visual abs, drop the weights and do cardio. The saying "Everyone have a six pack" is true. Heck, everyone has an eight pack, just most people have a blanket of fat over it. |
